Chapter 137 Continue as You Were
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Having heard Su Chen's words, Tang Yun immediately flared up with embarrassment.
"Huh? What did you just say, who's getting on in years?"
Flames seemed to spurt from Tang Yun's beautiful eyes once again as she glared at Su Chen, looking as if she wanted to devour him.
"Whoever knows what I'm talking about knows!"
Su Chen found that teasing this beautiful teacher was quite an interesting thing to do.
"You bastard!"
Tang Yun's pretty face turned beet red, and she swung her hand to slap Su Chen's face.
Seeing Tang Yun's palm coming his way, Su Chen coolly ducked his head and slightly shifted his neck, using the motion to divert her force, causing Tang Yun's slender arm to wrap around his neck, making it look as though she was embracing him.
"Mr. Su, Yun'er, dinner's ready."
Just then, Pei Rou pushed open the door, and when she saw the scene before her, she froze in place.
At that moment, Tang Yun was half-lying in Su Chen's arms, with one of his hands embracing her and the other resting on her body.
And Tang Yun's delicate arms were wrapped around Su Chen's neck, their postures extremely intimate, resembling a couple in the throes of passionate love.
Then, Pei Rou said something that left both of them stunned.
"Carry on, it's okay if dinner is a little late."
After speaking, Pei Rou hastily retreated and even closed the door behind them.
What in the world was happening?
Su Chen was utterly bewildered. What was happening? Was there really such a mother?
Not just Su Chen was dumbfounded, so was Tang Yun. What on earth was her mother doing?
However, being seen by her mother in such a state with a strange man, she was extremely embarrassed, her cheeks flushing red like a ripe apple, tempting enough to make one want to take a bite.
Tang Yun suddenly felt Su Chen's somewhat scorching breath and looked up, only then realizing she was still lying in his arms!
She quickly withdrew her arm with a "swoosh," trying to escape Su Chen's embrace.
But Su Chen's arms were firmly wrapped around her, leaving her unable to move.
"Let go of me!"
At that moment, Tang Yun's heart was "thumping" wildly, and she dared not look at Su Chen anymore.
"What's the rush? Didn't your mom just tell us to carry on?"
Su Chen's lips curled into a smile, revealing a hint of mischief.
Tang Yun felt like Su Chen was a big bad wolf at that moment and she was a vulnerable little white rabbit. Panic-stricken, she used all her strength to break free from his grip.
Having successfully escaped, Tang Yun didn't look back and dashed out the door.
Su Chen smirked awkwardly and followed out.
"Yun'er, why is your face so red?"
Seeing Tang Yun's flushed face, Tang Mingji quickly asked with curiosity.
"I..."
Before Tang Yun could respond, she was interrupted by her mother, Pei Rou:
"What's it to you asking about a woman's affairs?"
"I'm just asking, what's the harm?"
Tang Mingji muttered, smacking his lips.
Tang Yun felt like her mother must have misunderstood something and wanted to explain, but she didn't know where to start.
"Yun'er, when did you and Xiao Su start seeing each other?"
Pei Rou pulled Tang Yun aside and asked softly, hardly able to hide the amusement in her tone.
"Mom, what are you talking about? We're not..."
"Not what? I saw everything. I know you're shy, so I won't ask further."
Tang Yun truly felt like crying but had no tears. She grew even more resentful of Su Chen: it was all this jerk's fault!n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
At that moment, Su Chen also came downstairs, and upon seeing him, Pei Rou eagerly said:
"Xiao Su, are you hungry? It will be ready soon. I specially stewed a hen today; you should have some extra soup."
"Sure, thank you, Auntie."
Su Chen was puzzled. It was "Mr. Su" just before, so why had it suddenly changed to "Xiao Su"?
And why was Lady Tang staring at him constantly?
When Tang Yun heard her mother tell him to have more soup, how could she not understand the implication?
She felt even more ashamed to look at Su Chen, feeling utterly embarrassed!
In less than ten minutes, the servant Guo Ma finally announced that dinner was ready, and everyone gathered around the table.
As soon as the dishes were served, Pei Rou ladled a big bowl of chicken soup and chicken for Su Chen:
"Xiao Su, eat more. A stewed hen is the best for nourishing the body."
Pei Rou looked at Su Chen with eyes filled with tenderness, and even Tang Mingji felt that his wife's enthusiasm was a bit over the top.
Tang Yun was so embarrassed she wished she could crawl under the table. If Su Chen found out about her mother's thoughts, she wouldn't have the courage to go on living.
"Thank you, Auntie, but I can do it myself,"
stood up Su Chen, also feeling flattered.
"Alright, alright, you serve yourself then,"
smiled Pei Rou as she nodded.
"Su Chen, are you a local from Jianghai?"
"No."
"Then what do your parents do? Do you have any other siblings at home?"
"Mom, why are you asking these questions?"
By this time, Tang Yun's face had turned as red as her neck, and she dared not lift her head to look at anyone.
"What's wrong with asking? I'm just inquiring because I took a liking to Su Chen. I wouldn't bother asking anyone else!"
"It's alright, Auntie," Su Chen said with a smile. "My parents are no longer alive. I'm an orphan."
Even if Su Chen was slow to catch on, by this point, he had realized the lady of the Tang Family's intentions, prompting a bitter smile from him.
Hearing that Su Chen was an orphan, the Tang Family members were all taken aback, with even Tang Yun raising her head to look at him.
Tang Yun thought to herself that she hadn't realized his life story was so tragic.
"I'm sorry, Su Chen, Auntie..."
Pei Rou also felt somewhat apologetic.
"It's fine, Auntie. It's been many years, and I'm doing well now, aren't I?"
A light, carefree smile appeared on Su Chen's face.
"That's right, people always need to look ahead. You have a good attitude,"
nodded Tang Mingji as he commended.
"It's okay, Su Chen. From now on, treat our home as your own and come visit whenever you want."
A smile faintly appeared on Pei Rou's face.
Pei Rou's words were quite ordinary, but Tang Yun knew her mother's true intentions.
Facing such a mother, Tang Yun could only sigh helplessly.
It wasn't until around nine o'clock in the evening that dinner finally concluded.
During that time, everyone had a pleasant conversation, and Su Chen felt the warmth of family that he had not experienced for a long time.
"Uncle, Auntie, it's getting late. I should be going now,"
seeing that it was indeed late, Su Chen stood up and prepared to leave.
"Why don't you stay a little longer?"
"No, Auntie, I will come back to visit you both next time."
"That's what you said; I'll be waiting,"
"Alright, then I'll take my leave now,"
said Su Chen as he turned and walked out the door.
"Yun'er, go send Su Chen off,"
pushed Pei Rou Tang Yun out without any room for argument.
Just as Su Chen stepped off the porch, he saw Tang Yun coming out and asked,
"Why did you come out?"
"My mom asked me to send you off,"
Tang Yun said indignantly, puffing her cheeks.
"Auntie is really considerate,"
laughed Su Chen as he headed towards his car, with Tang Yun following him.
"Ms. Tang, is your mom trying to pick me as her son-in-law?"
When they got to the car, Su Chen suddenly asked with a mischievous smile.
"In your dreams! Don't flatter yourself!"
Tang Yun immediately jumped up, excited.
"Yeah right, with your temper, I wouldn't take you even if you were given to me for free!"
snorted Su Chen disdainfully,
"Aside from warming a bed, what else can you do?"
After saying that, Su Chen got into the car.
"Su Chen, you jerk!"
The sound of Tang Yun's spiteful voice rose as Su Chen stepped on the gas and quickly drove away...
