Chapter 66
Chapter 66 Lu Qin Showcases his Real Skills on the Spot! The Crowd of Bystanders Suddenly Fell Silent.
“Officer, listen to me. Search the boss, search his home, and you’re bound to find something,” the persistent old man insisted, refusing to back down, convinced that no stir-fried noodles could taste that good without some sort of trickery.
“Sir, you’ve got to trust our police investigation. The stir-fried noodles you ate this morning were freshly cooked by Mr. Lu, right? Did you see him add anything unusual to the pan?”
“No, I didn’t, but there are techniques in the trade—silent and sneaky. They can add something to the pan without anyone noticing,” the old man retorted, steadfast in his belief.
“You should’ve seen how fast the boss’s hands moved, like a machine! It was incredible,” the man added, full of confidence and unwavering in his stance.
The precinct chief and the officers found it impossible to reason with the old man. Even Lu Qin was at a loss for words.
He didn’t want to waste any more time on the matter, so he suggested, “My food cart is right outside, and I still have rice noodles. I can cook a fresh batch in front of everyone. Sir, if the freshly cooked batch tastes exactly the same as what you had earlier, would that prove I didn’t add anything unusual?”
The precinct chief’s eyes lit up.
“That’s a great idea. Sir, with so many of us watching, it’ll be obvious if Mr. Lu adds anything to the noodles.”
The old man furrowed his brows, thought it over, and finally nodded.
“Alright, let’s do that!”
In the open space in front of the police station, Lu Qin set up his food cart. People near the entrance, seeing a group of officers coming out of the station, craned their necks to see what was happening.
“Have they solved the case?”
“What’s going on? Why is Mr. Lu setting up his food cart at the station?”
“This is nerve-wracking. What’s the situation now?”
“I get it!”
“What do you get?”
“Mr. Lu is about to show off his real skills! This is the most convincing way to prove his innocence!”n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Exactly! Actions speak louder than words. Mr. Lu’s about to give them a demonstration!”
“Quick, record this!”
Click, click, click—everyone took out their phones.
In front of everyone, Lu Qin began cooking. He cleaned the wok, turned on the fire, added oil, and sprinkled in the seasonings—all his actions deliberately slowed down so everyone could see every step. Soon, the aroma filled the air. It was mouthwateringly good.
Several officers couldn’t help but swallow their saliva. Even the precinct chief was tempted to order a plate of noodles for himself. Everyone marveled at Lu Qin’s skills. These moves were better than those of a chef at a five-star hotel.
The noodles were done and the portion was generous. A female officer brought out a large bowl and a bundle of chopsticks. Lu Qin served the noodles into the bowl.
The precinct chief couldn’t resist and took a bite first. A heavy smoker, he found it easier to resist cigarettes than these stir-fried noodles.
It was insanely good! The precinct chief took several more bites, his spirits lifted.
“Sir, try these noodles. Do they taste like what you had this morning?”
The old man took a bite. After swallowing, his expression shifted. It tasted identical—just as delicious and addictive as before.
Seeing the old man’s reaction, the precinct chief laughed.
“Sir, these noodles were freshly cooked by Mr. Lu while we all watched. There’s no way anything suspicious could’ve happened, right?”
The old man let out a long sigh.
“Could I have been mistaken after all?”
“Take the ‘could’ out of it—you were mistaken. It’s alright, it’s just a misunderstanding,” the precinct chief said.
“Mr. Lu, sorry for wasting your time. We really apologize.”
“It’s no problem. It’s good to get to the truth,” Lu Qin replied.
Outside, the customers were still recording and began to cheer.
“Everyone says Mr. Lu is a good person. Now you have to believe it!”
“This is wild—good food gets reported to the police? Poor Mr. Lu!”
“Food so good it triggered a police report. I thought that was just an internet joke, but it actually happened!”
“The precinct chief personally apologized to Mr. Lu. The truth is out, and everyone’s happy now!”
“Mr. Lu, hurry up and come out. I still want to order some noodles!”
The precinct chief was momentarily stunned, watching as the large bowl of stir-fried noodles was quickly devoured by the officers.
“Xiao Zhang, Xiao Chen, that was a huge bowl! You didn’t even leave me a bite? Do you even respect me anymore?” He exclaimed, his eyes wide with disbelief.
Among everyone at the station, Xiao Chen and Xiao Zhang were known for having the biggest appetites. Judging by their oily mouths, it was clear they’d eaten the lion’s share. Though it was a big bowl of noodles, splitting it among so many people left everyone wanting more.
A young officer spoke up, “Mr. Lu, you still have ingredients in your cart, right? Can you make us a few more portions? We’ll pay.”
“Yes, yes! Since you’ve already set up, might as well cook us some more. We’ll have an early lunch!”
“Quick, notify the cafeteria not to make lunch. We’re all having Mr. Lu’s noodles today!”
And so, an unusual scene unfolded at the Chengnan Police Station. A group of officers lined up, jostling to buy stir-fried noodles.
“Everyone, stay in line! No pushing! Maintain the image of the police force. I’m the chief, so I’m first in line!” Declared the precinct chief, firmly asserting his position.
Pulling out his phone, he made a call.
“Hello, honey! Do you want stir-fried noodles for lunch? There’s this amazing stall, so good that someone called the police over it… No, I’m not joking, it really happened! Oh, you want some too? Alright, I’ll bring two portions home!”
Xiao Zhang shouted, “I’ll take three portions!”
Xiao Chen chimed in, “I’ll take five!”
Even Old Guo, the chef from the station cafeteria, came out to join the line. The old man who had reported Lu Qin also sheepishly approached him.
“Uh, Mr. Lu, will you still sell to me?”
“Of course. What would you like?”
“Two portions of noodles and two cups of mung bean soup…”
Outside the station, bystanders were recording the commotion inside while waiting their turn to buy noodles. After finishing all the business inside the police station, Lu Qin counted his earnings—1,546 yuan had been added to his wallet.
The precinct chief asked, “Mr. Lu, where can we find you next time we want your noodles?”
“Just join the QQ group. I post updates there,” Lu Qin replied.
And so, the police station’s QQ group gained a dozen new officer members. The existing members, upon noticing this, immediately fell silent. The chat, which had been buzzing with messages, came to an abrupt halt. Though they were all law-abiding citizens, the sudden presence of actual police officers left them too cautious to continue chatting freely.
Pushing his three-wheeled food cart, Lu Qin left the police station, escorted by the precinct chief himself. Elsewhere, Shen Muyan, Chen Dahai, and Mai Dejun all received updates about the incident. It was all a misunderstanding, and Lu Qin was fine. They finally felt at ease.
In total, Lu Qin had spent less than two hours at the police station. Not only was his time not wasted, but he’d also managed to make some sales while he was there.
Shortly after leaving the station, waves of customers began arriving. These were members of his QQ group who had heard about the incident and came to show their support for Lu Qin. They were all loyal fans, and upon seeing that he was alright, they felt relieved and bought noodles as well.
By 10:30 AM, Lu Qin had completely sold out of everything. Packing up, he headed home.
What he didn’t know was that a video titled ‘A food stall’s cooking is so good that an old man called the police, and the result was…’ had quietly gone viral and was now trending online.
