Chapter 445 Who The Hell Is This Guy?
Naturally, Shye was inwardly shocked by his subordinate's words as the grand yet terrifying appearance of the creature would cause most adventurers to cower at first sight.
Honestly speaking, Reginald's day-to-day antics made Shye regard him as a division management genius, not an elite adventurer who could solo a fierce creature of equivalent rank.
Hence, his heart raced wildly upon realizing that the seemingly dumb yet likable guy in front of him might actually be a crouching tiger who was hiding under the guise of a pushover.
'Hohoh, show me then, Regi!'
…The Tempest Wyrm didn't waste any time at all and slithered aggressively toward the daring human, opening its gigantic maw in an attempt to crush Reginald in one bite.
"Whooop!" Reginald said wackily as he jumped on top of the wyrm to dodge its attack, shockingly piercing through its thick scales rather easily using his seemingly regular dagger.
He then retrieved another one from his spatial bag, bringing a smile to Shye's face.
'A dagger dual-wielder huh?' Shye mused with a smile.
The dual-wielding passive skill was originally designed for scout-class adventurers as it would be a huge boon to double-wield daggers, bladed knuckles, and katars.
It was just that the warrior-class adventurers started trying the skill out as well, and although a few achieved success with it, the rate was way lower compared to dual-wielding scouts.
…As Reginald grasped his other, blue-colored dagger, frosty winds howled, indicating that the dagger was enchanted with an ice element gemstone.
Soon after, the young man used the seemingly regular dagger on his left hand to hold on to the top of the wyrm's head while using the ice-enchanted one to repeatedly stab its green eyes.
He then switched handles, stabbing the blue dagger into the wyrm's head while using the seemingly standard one to pierce the enormous wyrm's other eye.
"Weee!"
The wyvern momentarily collapsed as it howled in agony, losing both of its eyes in just a single exchange.
The sight naturally impressed Shye, however, he didn't like the weird noises that continuously came out of Reginald's mouth.
"Regi, stop making strange noises with every move! I know you're just pretending, so why not show me the real you?"
"Hahaha. As expected of the division leader, your wisdom and observation skills truly surpass your age." Reginald laughed calmly without taking his eyes off the blind wyrm, systematically attacking all of its weak points as it thrashed wildly in hopes of luckily hitting the hateful human.
Unfortunately, for a scout of Reginald's caliber, one would never be able to land a lucky shot as his eyes reflected a deep sense of eerie calmness—the faint apathetic smile on his face remained steadfast as he dodged each attack with pinpoint precision, landing counterattacks one at a time.
The guy was simply toying with the enormous monster.
Overwhelmed by curiosity, Shye finally decided to appraise his division member.
Only, he didn't expect that a notification he hadn't seen yet would appear:
[Appraisal has been blocked. Please level the skill up first before trying again.]
The notification only meant two things: either Reginald's level was way too high for Shye to appraise or the guy had a protection item which protected him from peering eyes.
"Ahh! You tried to peek, didn't you, division leader? Please don't do that again!"
Hearing his underling's words, Shye slightly panicked.
Although he initially trusted the guy, he wasn't so sure now, especially since the guy even had something that could block his appraisal skill.
Shye simply wasn't ready to disclose system-level secrets to Reginald just yet.
Little did he know, Reginald was also inwardly shocked, finding it hard to believe that a mere rookie had a skill that could peer through one's secrets.
After all, only appraisal shops and high-level adventurers possessed such skills.
At that moment, what small trust they'd built seemingly shattered, further emphasizing their shock at the unexpected skill revelations—one question resonating in their minds: 'Who the hell is this guy?'
Looking at each other warily, the calm expression on Reginald's face turned stern.
"We shall talk later, Shye Crowley."
Not in the mood to allow the wyrm to live for much longer, Reginald's calm fighting style turned into one of fiery aggression.
Without taking a single step back, Reginald dodged and weaved in front of the blind Tempest Wyrm, surgically severing each of its four limbs with multiple slashes before finally ending its life by stabbing its throat with a skill-empowered attack.
Turning around after a smooth kill, the "underling" shifted his focus back to Shye.
"Now then, my respected division leader, care to explain where you got such a rare skill at such a young age?"
This time, Shye felt hair-raising pressure from Reginald.
'This guy isn't someone I can defeat at my current level!'
Astonishingly, though, the pressure he felt wasn't that of killing intent but rather, of interrogation, meaning that he would probably live or die depending on his answer.
Yet, despite being faced with such overwhelming pressure, Shye's heart gradually calmed down.
Panicking won't do him any good here, and it wasn't like he was here to disrupt Reginald's plans no matter what they were.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Well…at least for now, as his main goal in the next year was to become a hero candidate.
Since Reginald was already too old, he wasn't eligible to take on the special quest, meaning that they shouldn't have any clashing goals.
"Sigh…Hear me out, Regi. I cannot tell you where I got the skill from, however, I could tell you my goals for the near future."
Hearing Shye's words, Reginald grew silent, seemingly pondering whether to accept Shye's proposal.
After a while, he nodded sternly.
He didn't truly want to fight this talented youngster, hoping to see him instead as a trustworthy ally.
However, if the guy somehow had connections to the people he hated, then it couldn't be helped.
"First of all, I'm simply following orders from someone, and although I cannot tell you who that someone is, the individual's current order was for me to become a hero candidate."
"A…hero candidate?"
"Yes, and by following that individual's orders, I would be able to enhance my strength to the point where I can attempt to search for and even save, if necessary, my parents who disappeared."
"Those are my goals. As for my secrets, I'm afraid I can never tell you."
Shye didn't expect Reginald's subsequent reactions to his words, though.
"Pfft!…Hahahaha! I thought you were just some insanely talented kid I could take advantage of, but it turns out you're a destined ally, huh?" Reginald said, nodding repeatedly in an extremely good mood.
Naturally, his reactions confused Shye.
"Don't worry, don't worry. Just know that I would be one of your allies." Reginald said while narrowing his eyes. "Till the end…"
