Chapter 590: Kings and Commoners
Chapter 590: Kings and Commoners
The next moment, Krummor's eyes gleamed with a sharp glint as he added, "But know that we are often present in the affairs of kings and commoners alike.
"Our name may be unknown to you but the cause we represent touches us all. We are the lord guardians of the realms, dedicated to the preservation of balance and the defense of the powerless."
Brigham deeply looked at Krummor. He then glanced at Elrick standing beside the table. Then, his gaze shifted to the young dwarf standing behind Krummor. It then shifted to Daneli and finally landed on Adam.
For a moment, he felt as if all these Magi were concealed in a layer of shadows!
Krummor's words didn't sound like empty ideals. Instead, they seemed to carry tremendous weight. He could feel it-the dwarf truly meant every word that he said. And that scared him. For an organization whose goal was to maintain peace and balance in these lands, Brigham couldn't even begin to wonder just how powerful it had to be. Moreover, the fact that he hadn't been aware of the existence of such a group until now truly shocked him.
For such an organization to have Daneli Amberind in their ranks, and even train someone like Adam... Brigham's mind was whirling with thoughts.
He then shifted his attention back to Krummor and thought, And this dwarf is far stronger than I am even though we're both Mana Vortex Magi. I can tell he's seen his fair share of bloody battles far more than I have.
If they're sending him as the representative, I wonder how many other powerful Magi there are in this organization.
I wonder if there is even a Mana Core Magus in their midst...
The old patriarch didn't dare to think further. He was dealing with an unfamiliar-and very powerful-organization. The fact that they initiated contact with him helped in avoiding
suspicion.
However, Brigham still wanted to learn more. He glanced at the dwarf and said flatly, "I shall get straight to the point as well. What do you want from the Flynn Family and what can we get in return?"
Hearing him, Krummor smiled. "Good, that makes things easier. We share your desire to see the Umbra Thieves brought down. I believe collaboration could benefit us both while preserving the discretion befitting your position at the city council."
He paused for a moment before adding, "Truth be told, the one we are truly after is someone else entirely. But we believe, taking down the Umbra Thrieves will help us in our mission of apprehending them."
"The Cult of Bones," said Brigham in a grim tone. Adam had already mentioned to him and Elysande the true objective of the Brotherhood.
"Indeed." Krummor nodded. He then glanced at Elrick and nodded again. Following that, Elrick conjured a scroll from his ring and respectfully handed it to Brigham.
The old patriarch accepted the scroll and began reading its contents. Krummor's words drifted into his ears as he read, "That scroll will provide you a short description of the cult we're after. From that, you'll be able to understand the gravity of the situation."
Brigham's eyebrows furrowed the more he read. About a minute later, he put the scroll down and looked at Krummor with a grave expression. "A cult that practices necromancy? Such a foul organization has infiltrated Ravenfell?!"
He was also shocked to learn that the cult originated from the Europa Continent. This continent was far from Ulier and rarely any Magi decided to venture there. The ocean was fraught with dangers and so were the skies.
Thus, over the centuries, Ulier and Nahua-the continent directly south of Ulier-had become self-sufficient, in a manner of speaking. They only traded with one another as trade with the continents across the Galestine Ocean was very risky.
Once again, Brigham was reminded of the deep background of the Twilight Brotherhood. He couldn't help but think incredulously, To be able to conduct operations across the Galestine Ocean...n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Indeed." Krummor nodded. "We suspect that the pandemic afflicting the Corvid Quarter is their doing. In helping you take down the Umbra Thieves, we believe we'll be able to track down the Cult of Bones as well."
At this point, things had far exceeded the benefits that Brigham could get from this alliance. After all, Ravenfell's security was at great risk. As a resident of the city and a Magus part of the city council, he could not turn a blind eye.
His expression turned solemn as he stated, "What can we do to help you?"
The scroll that he had just read had detailed enough evidence and intelligence to show the Twilight Brotherhood's commitment to the cause.
"Your influence and resources can prove to be pivotal to our mission in Ravenfell," Krummor began. "But before that, I have something that would greatly interest you."
The dwarf gazed at Elrick and nodded once again. Following that, the latter conjured another scroll and respectfully handed it over to Brigham with both hands.
Brigham unfurled the scroll and began reading. However, a few moments later, his hands began to tremble and his eyes widened in disbelief.
He slammed the scroll on the table and gazed at the dwarf with a thunderstruck expression. "This... how is this possible?!"
Brigham's reaction satisfied Krummor and he simply smiled in response.
"Like I said, our collaboration will be mutually beneficial."
Being one of the oldest aristocratic families in Ravenfell, the Flynn Family had thier fingers dipped in all sectors that boosted the city's economy.
The family's businesses helped the people of the city, but more importantly, they also greatly filled up their vaults. The second scroll contained crucial intel that was deeply related to the family's multiple businesses.
It contained information about the Umbra Thieves planning to disrupt the Flynn Family's trade routes in the surrounding lands. If Brigham was unable to prevent this from happening, it would deal a crippling blow to the family.
Krummor rested his elbows on the wooden table and interlocked his fingers. He glanced at the shocked patriarch and said matter-of-factly, "With your standing and our network, we can prevent those bastard's schemes and protect your houses's interest."
He paused for a moment, his lips curling up into a confident smirk. "And this is just the tip of
the iceberg, Magus Flynn.
"The Twilight Brotherhood can help you in ways that you cannot even imagine."
