Part 3
As I felt more and more cornered and continued nervously, Marin-san stopped in front of a door.
“We’ll do the examination here.”
When I entered the room, I saw many huge capsules lined up like something out of a science fiction movie.
“Now, please go into this capsule.”
“O-okay.”
Just as I was about to enter the capsule, Marin-san stopped me.
“Whoa, are you just going to get in there?”“Huh? Isn’t that what you said?”
“Of course not! Now, take off your clothes.”
“…..Eh?”
When I asked her back without thinking, Marin-san looked at me with a confused expression.
“What’s wrong?”
“No, I mean, just the shirt, right?”
When I asked her that just to be sure, Marin-san smiled very pleasantly.
“What are you talking about? Everything, take everything off!”
“E-eehhhh!”
D-do I have to take off all my clothes? In front of everyone?
Besides, it’s not just Marin-san and Kazuya, but a lot of onlookers as well.
Even if it’s just for an inspection, it’s too embarrassing to be completely naked here…!
When I panicked, Kazuya came to my rescue with a tired look on his face.
“Yuuya-san, you don’t have to take off all your clothes.”
“Huh?”
“Marin-san is just having fun watching your reaction.”
“Hey, Kazuya? That makes me sound like a really mean person, doesn’t it?”
“Cause it does, doesn’t it?”
“What are you talking about! There’s no one as beautiful and pure as me!”
I was stunned by the sudden exchange between Kazuya and Marin-san.
At least it looks like I don’t have to take off all my clothes.
As I was relieved for the time being, Marin-san told me casually.
“Well, you can keep your underwear on.”
“Isn’t that almost naked?”
I replied, but it seems that the clothes got in the way during the actual inspection, so it looks like I won’t be wearing anything other than underwear.
However, it seems that there were also swimsuit-like pants for the examination, and I was finally able to undergo the examination after changing into them.
When she saw my body, Marin-san opened her mouth in excitement.
“Oh, how ideal… This really is the perfect body! This will provide even more research material…”
“Marin-san, let’s just start the examination!”
Thanks to Kazuya’s intervention, Marin-san’s outburst was somehow contained.
“I’m already tired before I even start the test…”
“Hahaha… Anyway, once you’re inside the capsule, liquid will flow into it. But don’t worry, it’s a special liquid that will allow you to breathe even if it gets into your lungs. And once you’re in the liquid, the test will be over in no time.”
“I-I understand.”
Even though I can’t imagine what kind of liquid it is that allows you to breathe in it, I go into the capsule.
“Well then, shall we begin?”
And so, in front of a large crowd, the examination began.
As Kazuya had explained, the liquid gradually rose from my feet and quickly filled the entire capsule.
At first, I couldn’t help but hold my breath, but then I inhaled through my mouth and confirmed that there was no problem.
After that, I was able to breathe through my nose as well, and I soon got used to it.
Amazing… is there really such a mysterious fluid in the future?
More importantly, could one really have an examination just by soaking in it?
Even as I was thinking this, I was really just sitting still in the mysterious liquid, and there was no other kind of thing like light shining inside the capsule or anything like that.
As I calmly waited for the examination to end, the liquid that had filled the capsule suddenly began to flow out from under my feet.
“Well done, the examination is over.”
“Ah, yes.”
As Kazuya said, it was really only a matter of being immersed in the liquid.
After I’d gotten out of the capsule and changed my clothes, I went back to Marin-san and the others.
They were all staring at something on the holographic monitor.
What was it? But more than that… the people watching my test looked strange…
The atmosphere was dark, with a hint of disappointment in contrast to the initial curious looks.
What happened…?
“Um…”
“Hmm? Oh, I’m sorry. The results of your earlier test are already out.”
“That was quick!”
I thought it would take several days for the results to come out.
Well, they’re still fighting the mechanical knights, so I guess they don’t have time to take it easy…
I’m more concerned about the test results.
“So, how did it go?”
I asked a little nervously, and Marin-san hesitated for a moment before opening her mouth.
“Well, first of all, the results for your medical conditions… you were surprisingly healthy.”
“I’m glad.”
The test was for physical functions and superpowers, but I didn’t expect them to check for medical conditions as well.
More than anything, I’m happy to be healthy.
I don’t usually go to the hospital or anything like that…
Upon hearing that I was healthy, Marin-san continued.
“Next, about your physical abilities… the results were surprising.”
“Eh?”
“Your physical abilities were impossible to measure. On Earth a thousand years ago, was it normal to have physical abilities like yours?”
“No, that’s not it…”
“I’m just kidding. Even though it’s been a thousand years, some information has been preserved, and there are no records of people having physical abilities like yours before the awakened superpowers of today. If your physical abilities were the standard a thousand years ago, then all the world records in sports that have been preserved in history would be easily broken.”
“Ha-haha…”
Well, even without any improvements in my physical abilities, I was aware that I was deviating from the norm for human beings.
Or rather, I stopped being human to learn Divine Authority, didn’t I?
As I thought this, Marin-san’s expression suddenly darkened.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
“As for physical ability, it was an unprecedented, unbelievable record, but the most important thing is the superpower…”
I asked, sensing a bad omen when Marin-san suddenly hesitated to speak.
“Well… what was my superpower like?”
“…..It’s impossible to measure.”
“What? Impossible to measure?”
I asked back involuntarily, and Marin-san nodded.
“Yes. The rate of manifestation of your superpower is impossible to measure… in other words, it means you don’t have a superpower.”
“…..”
The room fell silent at Marin-san’s words.
At the same time, I understood why the atmosphere around me had changed so completely from before.
I knew I had a bad feeling about this!
Well, for those who were expecting me to be the savior, it would be a disappointment to hear that I don’t have any superpowers…
However, if I don’t have any superpowers, there’s nothing I can do.
Even if I were told to evolve right now, there’s no way I could do it.
Then, one by one, the onlookers who had been there left in disappointment, and in the end, only Kazuya and Marin-san remained.
In the midst of the worst possible atmosphere, Kazuya raises his voice as if to show consideration.
“It’s okay! The result of the divination is that Yuuya-san is still the savior! Even if you don’t have a superpower, it shouldn’t be a problem!”
“That’s right. In exchange for not having a superpower, you’ve achieved extraordinary results in your physical abilities. Well, there are also superpowers that strengthen the body, so it’s hard to say.”
“Marin-san!”
“I was just joking. Yuuya-san’s physical abilities were more than just a result of being strengthened by superpowers. Since we’re here, how about we take a closer look at those physical abilities?”
“That sounds good! Then let’s go to the training grounds!”
I can’t stand the feeling of being taken care of like this!
I’m really sorry that I can’t live up to your expectations…!
Despite my slumped shoulders, it was decided that my physical abilities would be further examined.
However, the difference from before is that I won’t be going into any machines but will actually be moving my body in a large space.
Also, the number of onlookers who were there before has completely disappeared.
“Kukuku… a brilliant palm reversal, isn’t it?”
“…..”
…Well, if it turns out that the savior they were expecting is powerless, that would be the case.
I can use magic and various other things, but it seems that those things didn’t show up in the test results.
Also, I’ve never fought a mechanical knight before… there’s a possibility that, like the divine soldiers, the only way to deal damage is with superpowers.
If that’s the case, then I’m even more useless than before.
The more I think about it, the worse it gets!
I have to pull myself together; I’ll just do my best with what I can do.
While trying to convince myself of this, I followed Marin-san and Kazuya, and we came out into a large room that looked like an athletics stadium.
“This is the training ground!”
There, armed people like Kazuya were training in various ways, such as sparring with each other or wielding weapons against dolls shaped like knights.
“I see, so most of the facility is this training ground…”
Even from the outside, it looked more like a stadium than a research facility, but my perception seemed correct.
Then Marin-san explained.
“As you can see, this is where the Awakened trains for the battle against the mechanical knights. They often try out the equipment developed at the research facility here, and it’s also used to test their superpowers.”
“──
While I was listening to Marin-san’s explanation, a woman’s voice rang out.
I turned my eyes in that direction and saw a woman about the same age as Kazuya and me, with beautiful hair in a gradient of red and orange.
“Akane!”
As Kazuya ran over to the woman named Akane, she turned her eyes to me.
“That person over there…”
“Ah, I’ll introduce you. This is my ancestor, Yuuya-san. Yuuya-san, this is the person I’m teaming up with…”
“I’m Akane Kazan.”
“H-hello…”
When I replied nervously, Akane-san gave me a look as if she was observing me.
“…You look a bit like Kazuya.”
“R-really? I’m not as cool as Yuuya-san, but…”
“From my point of view, you’re both the same.”
Akane-san’s tone was somewhat annoyed by Kazuya’s reaction.
“But more importantly, the fact that you’ve managed to bring back your ancestor, the savior, means that we can finally fight back. So… what kind of superpower did Yuuya-san have? I thought you’d already finished the examination?”
“Ah… Um, that is…”
Apparently, Akane-san still didn’t know that I didn’t have any superpowers.
That’s why when I or Kazuya showed an unconvincing attitude, Akane-san tilted her head.
“What’s with that reaction? Hasn’t he been tested yet?”
“No, it’s not that…”
“…It’s hard to say, isn’t it? That the savior was incompetent!”
Suddenly, a male voice with a somewhat overbearing impression sounded.
Kazuya frowned at the voice, and Akane raised her eyebrows as she turned her gaze to the owner of the voice.
“What? The savior is incompetent? What do you mean, Rikuto?”
I followed Akane’s gaze and saw a group of people approaching, led by a man about our age.
Then the man in front, who was called Rikuto, continued with a mocking look on his face.
“It means exactly what I said. The savior Kazuya brought here was a powerless person who hadn’t manifested any superpowers.”
“What? Kazuya, is that true?”
“…..”
Rikuto and his cronies sneered at Kazuya, who looked frustrated and had closed his mouth.
“See? I told you, didn’t I?”
“First of all, it’s a crazy story. How could an old human like him, who hasn’t even been awakened yet, become a savior?”
“In the first place, it was just something Kazuya started because he wanted to stand out, right? Besides, I bet the divination results were a lie, too, right?”
“You…!”
“…That’s something I can’t just let pass.”
As Kazuya was about to get angry, the girl next to him, Marin-san, opened her mouth with a cold voice.
“She risked her life to divine the future in order to change the fate of this world. What you’re saying now is an insult to her.”
“Then why is that man an incompetent?”
“
Rikuto smiles triumphantly at Marin-san, who cannot respond.
