Vol. 11 - Chapter 553 - An observation of brain cliche: A perspective of Mert and team

In the same audience stand, but from a different spot, one could spot a group of Class 1-8 students observing the match.

Their leader, Mert, set out a groan as his eyes captured the overall picture.

"Well, of course. Such is a piece of cake for our guildmaster."

One of the two finalist from 17th group was already clear at a glance. Now, as long they don't slip-up or lose their base, Class-1's ticket to finale was guaranteed. The other classes might held a united front against them, but there's only a slim chance they would even success.

Thus, Class-1 was basically a done deal.

It had been 40 minutes since Class-1 summoned all of their teams back to their class, and at present, they were having their little tea break.

Seeing their little leisure episode amidst the high strung air of the arena, Mert wasn't much surprised. Class-1 had taken all sorts of  measures for such a situation. He was sure his guildmaster had Class-1's complete command in his hand.

"Well... that's Zephyr-kun for you, ahaha"

"I—I really do envy my pace attitude actually."

Noel and Lacritta—the new members of «Eden», promoted during summer vacation—followed up in response to Mert's utterance.

Noel showed her envy for Class-1, while Lacritta looked up at Zephyr with wistful gaze.

In the academy, the closer one's class was to the top, the better their orientation was. Their lessons would be denser compared to their low-ranking counterparts. Their class ranking at the graduation was an actual merit for them, providing a huge boost for their job hunting. In a way, it was a life altering merit for them.

This'd been why everyone put their entire spirit in this Inter-Class battle to emerge at top.

The details were stretched out, but in a few words; that sort of 'tea time' leisure was rather unseen in matches.

"I guess Class-1 isn't going to make another move after their field activity now..."

Amidst the envy-filled gaze of two, Reglam chimed in.

Mert, Noel, Lacritta, and Reglam—their group of four were currently together, analysing the direction of the match as it proceeded.

Reglam's words elicit a node from Mert.

"It seems so. They already have their place secure for the finale. Any more would be a waste of breath."

"But do you think Class-1 would call it a quiet after a mere couple of attacks?"

"Err, Indeed. I, too, thought they would sweep every other class under the rug like the first match."

Noel and Lacrittta expressed their doubt.

Their question had stemmed from Class-1's performance from the first battle. With how aggressive they'd been than, sweeping as much as four classes directly by themselves, they must have thought Class-1 would continue with their grandeur performance until only two classes were left behind.

"......Well, it certainly can't be ruled out."

Mert took another look at Class-1.

Despite plunging themselves in a fierce battle right off the bat in the match, turning it into a four-way war, Class-1's loss was actually zero. Although low-ranking classes certainly were not a match for them, to leave unscath with that result was another matter.

Then again, this was probably a must to be the first class of their grade.

Now the question stood: why weren't they attempting another raid? It turned out the answer lied not in the match but somewhere else.

"This... Zephyr is probably considerate for academy management."

"You don't say..."

Mert meaning was one—Zephyr was trying to not overdo.

The brilliance of Class-1 was dazzling, dwarfing others to the point making them appear insignificant. Of course, they're just doing that to clear out their rivals. As they should be. However the situation couldn't be any more messy for academy or companies.

Inter-class battles were actually the place for them to discover talents. And due to events of the first opening match, a large crowd had walked in to see the shining jewels they're.

And if Class-1 continued to overshadow others, the rest would never get the chance to showcase themselves, and that would be missing the entire point of these battles. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Plus, too much action would incur gallons of grudge from other classes. After contemplating on this, Zephyr decided they would turn to defence completely once they've enough points to guarantee a ticket for the final.

Perhaps, unless there were some other circumstances, this would be the usual style of Class-1.

"......"

Noel and Lacritta etc flashed a wry smile, and pretended as if they never heard him. Reglam sensed the shift and changed the direction.

"What do you think who will cut in for 2nd finalist, Mert?"

"Well..."

Since Class-1's position was cemented as one of winners, the question now remains who would be second finalist be.

"With current point count, Class-6 appeared to have a lead. Now if Class-6 sticks to defence only, the other two classes, Class-10 and Class-18, would have only three options to decide from. Should they attack Class-1 together, or Class-6. Or will they have to break off from their alliance and decide between themselves with a battle."

Reglam nodded to Mert's observation.

"Oh, I actually think the same. Class-6 would probably stick to defence. Though out of three choices, the first one would be quite a foolhardy decision if the two classes took a shot at it."

Challenging Class-1 would be the most reckless thing they could do.

"That's right. So, they just have two choices in reality. I think they would raid Class-6's base together."

"Even if Class-10 and Class-18 fought between themselves, the exhausted winner would have to target Class-6. In that case, the better case would be to cut down Class-6 first together rather than building a pit for themselves before it."

Soon, Mert and Reglam's prediction took flight.

"Ah, Class-10 and Class-18 are on the move!"

"Their target is... Class-6 it seems!"

Noel and Lacritta exclaimed and turned to look at two boys with expectant gaze, urging him to predict the follow-up development.

Mert awkwardly scratched his cheeks and answered.

"Err, the situation up ahead has so many tipping points I honestly have no idea."

"Is that so?"

Reglam nodded in response to Lacritta's puzzled gaze.

"Yeah. The two classes had barely made their move, except concluding an alliance between themselves. The other times, they'd shut themselves tight like turtles."

"So, it's impossible to tell if they have enough firepower to take Class-6 down?"

"No, I do think they're quite strong. So far, they'd clearly seen through other classes' movements. I believe this is also a part of their plan. Maybe they're basically preserving their force from needless sacrifice."

"Hmm, doesn't that put Class-6 in a tough spot? They would have to face two classes together."

Learning the details, Noel tapped her index fingers against her jaw and tried to take a guess.

Mert nodded.

"This is why we have no idea what's going to happen next. Which class would take the 2nd seat?"

Noel and Lacritta nodded with an expression of understanding.

The «Base Capture» format was essentially one takes all. No matter how many attacks one base at a time, only the final attacker would reap away all the points. There was no contribution sharing.

They would probably find against Class-6 by challenging it together. However, rest would be up to their fortunes.

Mert continued his guess.

"Once Class-6 is out, they would have no reason to stick to the alliance. It was moot without any opposing force. In that case, we would probably see a battle between Class-10 and Class-18. The winner would get the last ticket to the finale."

"From the order of classes, Class-10 has an edge here. But we would have to see their final state after battle with Class-6. Plus, the battlefield will surely see change no matter who scores the point. If it turned out to be Class-18, well Class-10 would be in trouble. In the end, Base Capture format favours the defensive battle."

Reglam added to Mert's guess.

The following situation unfolded just as they'd guessed. ...On the surface, atleast.

It took them 30 minutes, but the joint raid of Class-10 and Class-18 finally broke through the turtle shell of Class-6, reaching to their heart.

The final bow was delivered by... Class-18, reaping away all points in Class-6's possession.

The situation, however, diverted starting at this point, flipping out their end prediction.

Just as Class-6 base was down, Class-18 base, too, fell, ending the match.

It was Class-1 that took down Class-18 base, having received a request from Class-16. Albeit, they couldn't make it in time.

T/N - Heya, everyone, how did your new year go? Personally, it was like everyday except the update of a game made the day. Any guesses? ~~And I guess you guessed the reason behind the delay this week. I can’t wait to eat my words said a while ago.~~

But on the brighter side, the goal performed quite well at least. Though it didn’t hit the set milestone, not that it was unexpected, we would be updating two extra chapters next week. And it seems like Hannah’s side story get the fair number of votes so there we go~.

On the side note—not that it’s important, so you can skip it—my original idea was to check out the light novel volume of series and see if there is any summer side stories, and *hopefully* the illustration of the remaining girl’s swimsuit but I couldn't find the time and means to get it. Welp, here goes my plan to put down summer stories in the winter season—the oh-so classic staple of anime regardless of the time. Let’s see this month then~.
