Chapter 320 The Final Despair!
"Thank you, Divine One, for agreeing to such a short notice ceremony." Everyone, including the king himself, kneeled in front of Evelyn. "We cannot express how much of an honor it is for us to be able to serve you like this."
Hearing the words of their King, the rest of the elves nodded in agreement. The woman they were addressing, on the other hand, was busy lost in her own thoughts.
'This was a mistake. Even though I am dying, I want to die in his arms. Not alone where I do not even know where he is.'
She started to regret her choice of sending the mage away from herself.
"Divine One?" As if sensing she was not paying attention to them, the priestess came forward and called out to her. Seeing Evelyn look at her with an indifferent gaze, she became surprised as she always recalled seeing warmth in those eyes. She shook her head to remove the thoughts before continuing. "Can we start the ceremony?"
'Should I stall and wait for him to arrive?' She thought before rejecting the thought, thinking she might arouse suspicion from them. "Start the event!"
With her confirmation, Nhalos smiled widely before coming forward, "Divine One, this year, I got a core of a transcendent level beast from the human king as thanks for helping him in the demon invasion."
Hearing his words, the rest of the elves looked at him in high regard and started praising him. Even Elena, who was standing beside clueless Lucian, was stunned hearing this. She knew how valuable the small fist-sized crystal was.
"There is no need for any of that." Evelyn narrowed her eyes seeing the orb; suddenly, she spoke up, puzzling everyone. "There is no need to offer anything this year. I am happy with the love and devotion you give me. I just want to celebrate this year with you all. Maybe if there is a need, we can use these."
Hearing her words, all the other elves were moved to tears, but Nhalos's eyes flashed with a cold light.
'Is this a random decision or did she notice something? I cannot let anything destroy the plan I formulated for today.' Just as that thought flashed through his mind, the ring on his left hand shone with a red light.
'Even though I was trying to make sure the plan does not go sideways, I have no choice but to act now.'
Evelyn, who was smiling thinking she had delayed the event somehow, suddenly frowned. It was not just her; even the old man standing by the side, invisible to the rest, frowned as well.
Soon their frowns started to change into a pained expression.
*BOOM!*
"What's happening?"
"Why is the nature suddenly changing?"
The atmosphere in the sky started to change, and dark clouds started to gather, scaring everyone. While they were busy looking at the sky, they failed to notice the swaying figure of their goddess.
"What have you done?" She glared at the elf king standing in front of her. Her eyes flashed with blood-red color as a crazed expression appeared on her face from time to time. Seeing the scene, Nhalos grinned back at her with a cold look in his eyes without saying anything.
*Boom!*
All the elves turned their attention back to Evelyn when they heard a huge explosion sound on the ground and saw that she was attacking their king with her strong tree branches.
"Why are you attacking me, Divine One?" Nhalos pleaded as he moved back, appearing pitiful in the eyes of the people of his race. "Was there something I did to upset you?"
"Why is the goddess attacking the king?"
"Did something happen?"
"To think what he said was true, we have been following the wrong person this whole time." The same old woman muttered under her breath as she sneaked in closer to take a look at the sinister energy coming from the roots of the divine tree. "This energy is similar to those high-ranking demons."
A look of horror appeared on her face as she hurriedly moved to tell everyone about her discovery.
"Are you sure we should let this happen?" In the back, Lucian asked Elena doubtfully, but seeing the cold look in her eyes, he shrunk back.
"Dear, don't you see the demonic energy coming from her body?" Elena leaned forward and rubbed his back to console him, and Lucian calmed down and nodded. "Demons are our enemy."
A smile appeared on Elena's face hearing his muttering.

"You really have the guts to say those words, Nhalos." Evelyn hissed in pain as the blood-red pulsing marks on the roots of the divine tree started to spread all over in all directions.
"The biggest mistake in my life was to make you the king after your sister left with that human." Hearing Evelyn's sneering mocking words, a cold look appeared in his eyes as if she had stabbed at his weak spot.
"You are the same weak pathetic little boy you always were. Jealous of your sister's achievements and obsessed with her life. I should have known you were a lost cause when you tried to have her husband almost killed by the elders."
"I have no idea what you are talking about." Even though he tried, he could not hide the coldness in his eyes. When he noticed that the old woman had finished telling everyone about how their tree was not a divine tree but a 'demonic tree,' a crazed smile appeared on his face.
"All soldiers, help me, we cannot let this demonic tree harm our homeland and our children." Hearing the plea of their king, the soldiers hesitated for a moment before their eyes became vacant, and they all rushed to the skies.
' I cannot count on these trashes for anything. Thankfully, I had them drink the enslavement seal fed by the lord in their meals.' Nhalos thought as he saw them encircling the divine tree from all sides.
"O Great spirit of light that shines through the darkness!" Hearing their chants, Evelyn started laughing out loud. "You want to use spirit magic against me?"
She raised her hand, and several branches shot toward each guard aiming to take their lives.
"Did you forget that spirit magic is most effective against the demons?" Nhalos chuckled as he saw the veins affecting the divine tree starting to tear apart under the effects of the divine magic.
"Nhalos, do you think I do not know that I am not the target for your idiotic little plan." Seeing her attacks rendered useless against the elves, Evelyn ceased all of her attacks and looked at him with a ruthless smirk.
"You think that I would let this go according to your plan, then you are very wrong." Nhalos got confused not knowing why she suddenly started saying all of these things but what happened next made his mind go blank.
*ZHENG!!!*
The earth started to tremble as the whole divine tree shook on its own.
"NO! Evelyn, You cannot do this!" Sensing what was happening, the old man yelled in pain and sorrow.
*BOOM!*
He watched as one of the roots of the divine tree spurted out of the depths of the earth.
*BOOOM!*
And another one followed after another. Suddenly Evelyn slammed her hands together, and her entire figure started glowing. "You want to destroy the planet? I Won't let you do
it."
With a grin on her face, Evelyn watched as the roots that came out of the earth merged into her body and her whole body shined in a divine glow.
"Stop her!" Watching the natural atmosphere returning back to normal, Nhalos's expression darkened as he ordered all of the elves. The soldiers under his control started chanting their magic as they aimed their bows at her, but the other elves looked conflicted.
They felt that Evelyn was trying to save the world, but the demonic energy coming from her made them disgusted with her.
"NO ONE WILL TOUCH HER!" Nhalos narrowed his eyes seeing a little girl appearing in front of the woman.
"Lila, what are you doing?!" Elena yelled from afar in panic, but she was grinning in her mind. Lucian also added, "Come here, Lila, do not interfere in their matter."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Lila snorted in disgust upon hearing their words and raised her knives to show her conviction.
"Very well, I will kill you along with the woman." With an indifferent look on his face, Nhalos raised his hands and formed a bow and arrow of light and aimed at Lila who stood in front of Evelyn, trying to kill two birds with one stone.
*WOOSH!*
He released the arrow and watched as it made its way closer to the two of them; Evelyn tried to think of a way to block the attack, but her hands were tied with the magic she was performing.
*TIIINNNGGGG!!!!*
Suddenly, a sharp noise of metal clanking filled the area, causing everyone to fall on their knees with their hands covering their ears. Nhalos also had to cover his ears with magic to stop the pain from the voice.
He looked ahead and saw that his arrow was stopped by a dull-looking knife that was now etched on the ground. Following his intuition, he looked above in the air. As soon as he did that, a look of despair appeared in his eyes.
