Isekai Journey Of The Magic Archer

Chapter 1037 The family in the sky

[Eon's POV: ]

We've travelled in the airships.

All of us have, even Taika have so, at least, for all the humans, this trip through the airship wasn't that big a deal.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

{ "Mama! Mama! Look! We're in the clouds~!" }

{ "Can I eat the clouds? They say they taste sweet~!" }

{ "Will there be a castle in the sky? Are we going to that castle? The story Anna told us had a big bad giant's house in the sky? Are we going there~ ?" }

All thirty two Povpoi who had lived inside a simple cave all their life, the creatures who had not even seen the sky or the outside world until a few years ago, were flying in the sky that they had admired all this time for the first time.

{ "Master… the sky surely isn't edible, is it?" }

Even for my retainer, the Lizardman Zuroro, this was the first time on an airship.

"Of course not. The children are simply being children, haha."

Looking at the little furballs jumping all around the ship was a funny sight in itself and since they had learned Mana speech, the kind of childish questions that they were asking all of us were even more funnier.

Just hearing those funny questions made the few of us chuckle, and Anna had been giggling since a while ago.

'Before coming here, she had told them all kinds of weird stories about the sky and the clouds that we see in the sky.'

She told them the clouds were actually edible like the cotton candy that they had tried before. That they could eat the clouds if they could just jump on them.

She told them about the giants that live in the clouds, and the ship that takes you to these castles.

She even told them how you can stand and play in these clouds so some of them had tried to jump off the ship, but since this ship also has security functions like the other airships, they couldn't jump off even if they wanted to.

There were magical barriers all around the ship, and even if they didn't consider them, the winds up on the deck were so strong that even if they did jump off, despite their great weight, they would flung out and end up back on the airship.

'Well, there were ways they could get off the ship, of course, but no one was going to tell them about them.'

Everyone knows that it was dangerous, so just seeing them jump around the shop was enough.

"Eon, are we going to have lunch anytime soon?" Grandmother asked me with a calm expression as she looked at the playing Povpoi with a smile.

Rein was with Anna and Mave right now, playing with a bunch of Povpoi inside, while the others were all scattered around the ship.

"There's still some time left for that, grandmother. Would you like to have some snacks before that?"

"Sure. That would be nice as well."

The airship was simple even though this was a personal one. We had other fancy ones, but since we were only going north, that too for a few weeks and not for a short time, using a fancy one wasn't necessary.

'Though, if this was a diplomatic trip, or even something related to business, this would have been a different story.'

But since that wasn't the case, we didn't need something fancy.

This one was faster anyway, so this was better than something else.

"Grandmother, Rein told me about your time as the shorekeeper earlier-."

"You didn't know until now?"

Grandpa was resting in his chambers for now like the others. Mom and dad were in the parlour on the other side while Aunt Aug was playing with the Povpoi children on the deck where we were just a minute ago.

"Not really."

Aunt Haze and Alf are looking around with Uto, and he's showing her how the two of them have grown. Uncle Theo is with them, but he is chatting with uncle El insted.

The two seem to be plotting something, but I don't know what they're up to yet.

'It must be something unique if they are planning it, so I should look forward to it.'

That aside, with Quin and Carla handling the bulls with Taika, grandma and I are the only ones in the dining area right now.

"I've read what is in the history books, I know a little from the stories you have told us, however I wanted to hear it from you as well.

The Devil of the Lighthouse… how exactly was this title born?"

My grandma was no calm headed person in her younger days. Carla actually got her fierce personality.

'From what I know, just like Carla, she also used to be a fiery person. Always excited about something, searching for things that would bring her a step closer to something she was chasing.'

Though she did not have any interest in weapons, she was the person that was chosen by the god of the ocean after her father, so ever since she was as young as us, she knew she was going to be responsible for all the people that used to be the responsibility of her father.

She learned all there was to learn about being a good lord.

With her blessed powers, she was able to connect with the waters of the vast blue, so she honed that power as a mage hones their Mana control or how a knight honed their mastery over their weapons.

She worked hard each day. Her father, our great grandfather, was said to be a strict person as well so he had taught her everything that he knew even before he started showing signs of weakness.

By the time she was twenty, she was already ready to take over his place, and it was also around the same time the wars all around the western continent started.

'The north was not related to any of the nations so it was in the most difficult position.'

With the two empires on one side, a forbidden zone on the other, and with many small forces surrounding them on three sides, the entire archipelago was in a tough position.

"Hmm… it's quite an interesting question, dear. However, the one that would answer that better than me would be your grandfather since he was the one that called me by that name first as long as I remember."

Maris pirates, the grand fleet of thirty six ships, the 'family' that my grandfather was part of, had quite the relationship with the Heliox family and the 'people of the shore'.

"I still remember that day as clearly as yesterday… I was out on a routine inspection of the western side of the sea, and he was there, looting an ally ship with his gang, completely different from what you all have seen him."

I know about grandpa's days as a pirate. Those famous stories were something we have heard many times, and every time we listen to it, we look at him with an intrigued expression.

'The Zahavi Zale Maris that we know and the Tyrant of Maris that grandma knows seem like two completely different people.'

He used to be one of the biggest troublemakers of their time.

He went around destroying all kinds of tough ships that he saw with a bat that pirates of Maris used on a regular basis.

There were all kinds of bad stories about him in the older newsletters. There were records of them fighting against fleets from other nations, fighting against creatures of waters that should not even be disturbed, and stories of how he was called one of the most notorious pirates of his time.

'There was a record stating he had sunk more ships than the amount of ships the empire currently possesses… it's baseless but even if it's exaggerated, the amount of trouble grandfather must have caused in his younger days must at least be quite a lot.'

His relationship with not just grandma, but the entire archipelago and the caretakers of the shore, the Heliox, had been a unique one.

"Back then, with his long hair and thick beard, he would beat up even the trained knights who could use Aura and then loot their ships before sinking them.

They then sell the stuff that they steal to us not for money, but for food and booze. Those barbarians definitely didn't know anything aside from fighting and partying."

She had a smile on her face, as well as a nostalgic expression on her face as she talked about their time from more than fifty years ago.

It was a long time ago, and now that they are much older, thinking about when they used to do childish stuff seemed more funny than cringe to her.

"At that time, I saw him and I didn't like the way he was beating up the allied forces so I sunk their ships with strong waves.

When he found out that I was the one that did that, he simply cursed at me, calling me the Devil or the Lighthouse, and walked away while spitting on a black rock.

That wild man… the war and the deaths that he saw during the war changed him more than our relationship."

We have heard their stories. Be it the story of their first meeting, the first time they realised they were in love, the time they spent together, the time they spent separated from each other… not all of their stories were about love and war, but those two aspects of their stories were what forged their relationship.

"So, you should definitely ask him where he heard that cheeky title."

She naturally never cared about the names people gave her, not even the most famous that had survived till this day and was famous in many parts of the north and even other sides of the world.

Even though they have been together for more than five decades, they had never really known everything about one another so… it's going to be difficult for Rein and me to know everything about each other.

Still, they had a different relationship while what we have is different.

"And don't forget to tell me about it later, ok dear?"

We were going to her home, our first home.

And since we are going to the place where both my mom and uncle El were born, as well as the birthplace and origin of our grandparents, the stories that we are going to hear are definitely going to be interesting.

'I'm looking forward to them, actually.'

There's so much I wanna know about that amazing place…
