Primordial Draconic Incubus With A Gourmet Chef System

Chapter 61 Expectations Vs Reality

Lily's cute face became rosy as she swallowed the piece of steak.

But just as Lily was about to happily fork another piece of steak, she could not help but frown.

It was true that the Sous Vide Filet Mignon steak was delicious, but compared to the Siren's Melody Poached Egg, which had caused her to see a life-like illusion, it lacked greatly.

The flavor of the dish, and now that she took a moment to think, even the plating and smell of the dish paled in comparison to the Siren's Melody Poached Egg.

The difference between the two dishes was gigantic.

'Maybe, it's Lily's fault for being too expectant.' Lily sighed and poked her steak a few times. Even though she thought that, she could not help but feel a tad bit disappointed. She had been looking forward to eating the dish ever since Lucian had mentioned it.

Just as Lily prepared to eat the steak, she heard Lucian's words, "How is the dish, Lily?"

"Uhh…umm." Lily panicked and tried to find a good lie to say. She did not want to hurt Lucian's feelings, especially after all the trouble he had gone through to cook it.

"Big Brother Lucian, your Sous Vide Filet Mignon is so good. It's the best!" She heavily nodded, while internally satisfied with her lie.

But alas, she was a horrible liar, and Lucian saw through it.

Lucian nodded and indifferently said, "Since you like the steak, you probably don't want to try it with the pan sauce."

Lily tilted her head and asked, "Pan sauce?"

Lucian pointed at the ramekin containing a red velvety sauce with hints of multicolored starlight.

"That pan sauce contains all the flavor," Lucian said, then continued with a shake of his head, "But since you don't want to try it, that means more for me."

Lily's eyes widened as she mused, 'All the flavor? Is that why Big Brother Lucian's dish feels lacking?'

When she thought that, she could not help but lick her lips, her mouth uncontrollably began salivating, and her nose unconsciously took big whiffs.

But…

'Why can't Lily smell the pan sauce? It smells like nothing. Has Lily's nose stopped working?'

'Did Big Brother Lucian lie to Lily?' Lily looked at Lucian, but after seeing his indifferent face, she concluded it was her nose's fault.

Fenwick, who had stayed silent and watched from the beginning, finally spoke. "Is something the matter, Lily?"

He was genuinely confused with how Lily was acting. If he was in her shoes, he would have devoured the entire steak by now. Yet, she had only eaten one piece of a slice…n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

'Life is not fair!' He bitterly thought.

Hearing Uncle Fenwick's words, Lily hesitated, and spoke poutingly, "Lily's nose has stopped working!"

'...' Lucian's lip twitched, not expecting Lily to think her nose had stopped working. If not for his eons of experience, he would have burst out into laughter.

Unlike Lucian, Fenwick was confused, but just as he opened his mouth to ask what Lily meant, Lucian continued, "The pan sauce is protected by natural Sealing Runic Symbols."

"WHAT!?" Fenwick's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets after hearing Lucian's words. He could not believe it.

After a moment, he shook his head in disbelief and said, "How can a mere dish produce natural Sealing Runic Symbols? That isn't possible… it should be impossible!"

Obviously, Fenwick did not believe Lucian's words. Even if he was a terrifying Magical Beast, strength could not influence nature to produce Runic Symbols.

"Uncle Fenwick, what are Sealing Runic Symbols?" Lily asked, tilting her head in confusion at the unknown term.

However, instead of Fenwick answering, Lucian explained, "Instead of explaining about Sealing Runic Symbols, I'll start with Runic Symbols, also known as the Universal Language."

Fenwick was not angry when Lucian began explaining, instead, he listened with all his attention. Someone of Lucian's caliber would definitely know more than him.

And he was correct in his judgment. Fenwick knew of Runic Symbols to an extent, but he had never known they were also called the Universal Language.

"Big Brother Lucian, does that mean the Universe can communicate?" Lily asked with shining eyes while feeling her head hurt. She hated to learn, but since Runic Symbols had something to do with food, she decided to listen just this once.

Lucian nodded and continued, "Yes; however, the Universe Spirit will not just speak with anyone. It is too busy keeping the balance of the Universe to care about responding to just anyone."

When Lily heard she could not speak with the Universe Spirit, she pouted with downcast eyes and gave up on wanting to speak with the Universe Spirit.

Internally, Lucian smiled warmly before continuing his explanation, "You shouldn't feel too down."

"Who knows, maybe you might get the chance to speak with the Universal Spirit one day."

Imperceptibly, a mysterious smile graced his lips before disappearing.

Lily's eyes widened as she happily said, "Really!?"

Lucian nodded and said, "Anyways, back to the topic at hand. Unlike a simple language like Arcadian, the Universal Language possesses an innate power to it, the power of the Universe, which can bend the Laws to an extent. And if a Mage somehow learns the Universal Language, they can use it for wondrous things. For example, that zither of yours.

It has been inscribed with various types of Runic Symbols."

Lily blinked in surprise, and her mouth opened wide. She had never been told her zither had Runic Symbols. Hastily, she retrieved her Soul Ensnaring Zither from her Spatial Ring, allowing it to silently float beside the table.

When Lucian saw the beautiful zither hovering near him, he could not help but be internally amazed and startled.

'I was right! Somehow, in this world, instruments aren't limited to mere entertainment!'

For the first time in a long time, Lucian felt his blood boiling in excitement. For someone with eons of knowledge and experience, finding something new was both exhilarating and profoundly satisfying.
