Chapter 398 King Artheus
They hadn't yet landed in the next world and Kiro could sense the chaos that ravaged the next world. Completely different from the serene and untouched oceanic world they just visited.
This time, he landed on his feet. The jump managed to take more than half of his energy but he was still standing strong. The moment his feet touched the ground he used vibrations to sense the uneasiness in the atmosphere.
"What the...they're fighting with swords and spears no magic, is this the medieval times we've only ever seen in the history books?"
He could tell they were getting ready for something big, this meant they were plunged in the middle of a war with beings like them who could harness natural energy and the people they meant to protect and recruit couldn't.
"Should we just, leave them?" Kiro considered it. Him and Hubris were strong but not strong enough to take out an army of harbingers.
"Master, you could teach them to sense Kaos just like you did with my people." Hubris suggested not liking the idea of leaving people to die.
Kiro sighed. They were human, humans were usually extra skeptical and betrayal when they were concerned seemed to triple.
"Fine, let's walk to their camps."
He decided to walk not wanting to freak them out and cause their extinction. Because if they were to attack he wasn't sure he wouldn't fight back, there was very little room for mistakes.
They could be seen from the distance. To people who were used to normal, Kiro seemed like a demon with his demon hound. Hubris exuding bloodlust didn't help the situation, panic ensued within the camp.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Those who guarded the gates stood with their legs shaking, spears and swords in hand. Mouths agape, attempting to speak but failing miserably.
"Bring me to your leaders, I'm not here to cause trouble."
Kiro could smell that one had soiled themselves. His nose wrinkled, he looked to Hubris giving him a silent plea for them to just disappear from this world. He'd already replenished half his energy, so there was enough to leave.
Hubris did his best to ignore his master's silent pleas. It was hard to admit but they needed every help they could get, if they didn't serve as good soldiers, they could serve as good meat shields.
"This way," a petite woman appeared to lead them to where the leaders are.
"Hubris, can't you make yourself small? I think they'll die if you keep this up." He suggested.
"Master, I can't."
It took everything within the woman's body to stay rooted in place. He couldn't believe the beast could speak, it had sentience that somehow made things worse for them.
The woman started bowing in worshipping, "oh great ones. I wasn't sure before but I now know you're gods. Please help us, we're in a very perilous situation."
"Are you the leader?" Kiro asked in a cold seething with anger voice.
The woman sprung up immediately and gave them an apologetic smile. She walked, albeit slowly with her shaking legs, towards a luxurious tent. Continue your journey on empire
"King Artheus the fourth, here are the intr—guests."
The tent was luckily big enough to fit Hubris. They both entered, Kiro couldn't contain his anger seeing how the people outside lived compared to those in here. Human greed was something he refused to understand.
They were facing a world ending event, you'd think that would bring them closer. You'd think that would make them sever social classes, but the king held onto them like a child with his first toy.
"Unbelievable." That's all he managed to utter.
"I'm the king of Arthens, shouldn't you be bowing in my presence?" He gave them a sinister smile.
Kiro couldn't contain his laughter. With every sound that came out it was accompanied by seeps of bloodlust.
"Bow, to you? My mount here is a king too, will you bow to him?" He mockingly asked.
"Dare, me? Artheus the fourth, bow to a lowly beast? You dare come into my house to insult me."
Kiro turned to Hubris, "this is your fault, I told you we should just leave them to die."
He clicked his tongue Hubris didn't answer but he could feel that his mount wanted to save the innocent. They didn't have to die just because they had a really bad king.
"Die? We're perfectly fine. Yes there were threats looming but we're prepared to neutralise them. You can be on your way now."
One thing about the chosen one from earth, he was a very petty guy. He released his intent causing everyone in the tent to choke and gasp for air, the king was now on his knees pleading silently to be spared.
"Oh King Artheus the fourth, you didn't have to bow to me. I'm but a lowly servant of my world, I want to leave you for dead but my mount here seems to think there's something worthy about this world."
There were coughs all round when Kiro released them from his clutches. He didn't notice it before, but there was something about the king and his subjects in the tent.
They had traces of Kaos within them. Like someone had been feeding them the energy, they couldn't quite control it yet.
That's when Kiro knew, the king was in cahoots with the ancient ones. Prepared to give up on his world for crumbs, seeing this happening a second time made him sick.
"Are humans just the same everywhere? Tell me Artheus, what did the ancient one promise you?" It wasn't a polite tone, he demanded the answer.
The king didn't seem to have restraint, "he'd give me this world to rule." He answered as though he was under a trance.
"Hubris this is a lost cause. But we can't have the ancient one taking over this world. I don't know why it goes around taking worlds but it can't be for anything good."
Kiro didn't have a clue what he was going to do. None of these people could fight a harbinger, it wouldn't be long before they came back.
"If they already have the King as their puppet why does the war need to go on?"
